Mark Twain said never to let the truth get in the way of a good story. As someone who deals in the currency of truth – numbers – and who also prides himself on being an above average storyteller, I am happy to report that that there is a good story to tell in North Louisiana, and it’s all about the numbers.

• Caddo Parish Director of Juvenile Services Clay Walker was named the 19th recipient of the prestigious Don E. Wydra Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention at the recent Louisiana Governor’s Conference on Juvenile Justice.

Shreveport Aquarium
Jake Wood with the Shreveport Aquarium is also preparing for the much-anticipated early opening of Salt, the restaurant within the aquarium coming this summer. “Salt is going to be a new American sustainable dining experience with a focus on Louisiana seafood,” Wood said.

RAISE THE AGE
Currently, Louisiana law provides that juveniles who are 17 or older are considered to be “adults” for purposes of criminal prosecution, which means that their cases go to district court. And these juveniles go to the “adult” jail, which in Caddo Parish is Caddo Correctional Center (CCC).

Baseball and softball seasons are in full swing, and one of the most common injuries which I treat in these athletes is elbow pain. Baseball players are the athletes most commonly affected; elbow symptoms account for up to 97 percent of elbow complaints in pitchers.

DETECTING LUNG CANCER EARLY
An early detection screening program for lung cancer with low-dose CT scanning is being offered at the LSU Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. Lung cancer is the second most common cause of cancer among men and women and the most common cause of cancer death, representing about 26 percent of all cancer deaths.

Lectures & Seminars
Due to the limits of early technology the first films were under a minute long. This changed in the early 1900’s when motion pictures were produced. At Home On Copper Lily Lane
Charis Kirk and her daughter moved into the new build on Copper Lily Lane early this year. Amanda Haynie, an interior designer and owner of Milling Around, helped Kirk with window treatments and accessories and says Kirk had everything unpacked and placed in record time.

2017 PARADE HOMES
The Home Builders Association of Northwest Louisiana’s annual Parade of Homes will take place June 3-4 and June 10-11 from 1-6 p.m. daily. This self-guided tour of 39 fabulous homes with 21st century innovations will be open for touring throughout the Shreveport-Bossier community.

With the theme of Pirates at Pink Party Cove, held May 6 at the Shreveport Convention Center, the decor was festive, to say the least. Flamingoes and roses were on the tables in the lobby, and ships and treasure boxes on tables in the ballroom. Of the few guests not dressed in pink, many showed up as pirates.
