CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP
Brothers Eric and Bruce Allen, and Bruce’s design partner, Jim Hayes, have spent the last several months brainstorming, designing and crafting glass pieces for the Shreveport Aquarium. The aquarium is currently under construction and will occupy the former site of the historic Barnwell Center.

In 2019, iconic documentary filmmaker Ken Burns ("The Civil War," "Baseball," "Jazz," etc.) will unleash his take on the history of country music in his typical TV mini-series fashion, and the effort will include significant segments on the Hayride.

BE A FAN OF SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER
The “Be a Fan” campaign, which was introduced in 2016 by the Shreveport- Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau and its partners, will expand in 2017 to include new events and giveaways, May 1-31. The campaign coincides with National Travel and Tourism Week, which will be celebrated May 7-13 in destinations throughout the United States.

Once upon a time, the Caddo Parish Commission was known as "the zoo" because of its conduct at meetings and the bickering among its members. But as years passed and new members were elected, its image changed. The Commission became the shining star among local government entities.

TRYING TO GET A REAL HANDLE ON SCI-PORT’S FINANCES IS NO EASY TASK
Understanding a financial statement is no easy task for a lay person. However, a quick review of the Sci-Port audit* raises many red flags for the 2016 fiscal year. The report includes comments on transactions after the end of the June 30 fiscal year which further reflect negatively on the economic viability of Sci- Port.

Caddo Parish Commissioner Patrick Jackson thought that voters “didn’t get the message,” saying “there is some misinformation that was put out, there is some more information that the parish needs to put out.

Painted On My Heart
On April 4, the Shreveport Regional Arts Council held its first Critical Mass Performing Arts Showcase since its new black box space in Central ArtStation was completed. It’s a terrific and much-needed space, but the venue for this multidisciplinary event isn’t as important as what the artists bring to the table.

Wine Country Bistro hosted their 9th annual legenday wine festival, Wine and Swine, at their new Pierremont location for the fi rst time. The festivities spilled out into the parking lot, where Easy Money provided the musical entertainment for the hundreds of guests.
