Daggett will present an informative slide-show presentation on Alaska in the first of two-parts. She will conclude her travelogue with a presentation on the Butchart Gardens. Coco Chanel’s Fashion Revolution Guest Speaker: Maredia Bowdon, retired English teacher Tuesday, Jan. 24, 3:30 p.m. Chapel at The Oaks As founder of the influential French fashion brand, Chanel, Coco Chanel is recognized as a pioneer in the field of fashion. With her trademark suits and little black dresses she created timeless designs that are still popular today. She herself became a revered style icon known for her simple yet sophisticated outfits paired with great accessories. This lecture examines the extraordinary career of this style icon and her contribution to the evolution of fashion.

Piano Perfection: Wideman Competition Preview Guest Performers: Alison Chaing, of Eastman School of Music; Tzu-Yin Yaun, from the University of Michigan; and Chloe Zhang, from The Julliard School.

Thursday, Jan. 26, 4 p.m. Tower Ballroom Each year, the Wideman Competition brings outstanding pianists from throughout the United States and around the world to Shreveport. Named for the late Nena Plant Wideman, a member of the Centenary College piano faculty, this competition features young pianists who bring their musical gifts to Shreveport. They will perform at The Oaks of Louisiana in a masterful preview of their final round of competition. The final round is a Masterworks performance with the Shreveport Symphony that will conclude with announcement of the winner!

Inauguration Insight: Student Plays the Trump Card Guest Speakers: Mason Kemp and Katherine Pace Friday, Jan. 27, 3 p.m. Tower Ballroom Culminating one of the most historic presidential elections in U.S. history will be the inauguration of Donald Trump as 45th president of the United States on Jan. 20. Northwood High School junior Mason Kemp and 4-H Development Agent Katherine Pace will attend. They'll return to Shreveport with exciting stories to be sure. The two will share their experiences in Washington, D.C., for the historic swearing in.
