GHALI NAMED CHANCELLOR OF LSU HEALTH SHREVEPORT Dr. G.E. Ghali, DDS, MD, FACS, FRCS(Ed), has been appointed as chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport and dean of the School of Medicine by President F. King Alexander and with the support of the LSU Board of Supervisors.
Previously, Dr. Ghali was a professor and chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and held the Jack W. Gamble Chair in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also director of the cleft and craniofacial surgery fellowship program.
Dr. Ghali graduated with degrees in medicine (LSU School of Medicine, Shreveport) and dentistry (Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas). He served an internship in general surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas, and an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the same institution. He held a fellowship in head and neck oncologic surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University, Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
WILLIS-KNIGHTON EMPLOYEES LEADING FUND-RAISER FOR LOCAL HEART WALK Willis-Knighton Health System employees have been cited for top fund-raising efforts during the fall Heart Walk. According to Laura Pfender, regional director for the American Heart Association, Willis-Knighton staff raised $21,916.
With leadership from each campus, fund-raising activities began with the forming of teams and securing of walkers. WK’s marketing department assisted with a customdesigned T-shirt which was available for purchase. Paper hearts were sold, sponsorships from friends and relatives were received online, and bake sales were held.
