The Community Foundation of North Louisiana will once again host Give for Good. The event begins at midnight May 3 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Registration is now open for nonprofits wanting to participate and will continue through Feb.12. Go to the Give for Good website (www.giveforgoodnla.org) for eligibility requirements. The Community Foundation staff will perform due diligence to ensure all organizations are in good standing with the IRS and state entities. During Give for Good, all dollars raised through The Community Foundation’s giving website, will be amplified with dollars from the local Lagniappe Fund, a pool of incentive dollars for participating nonprofits. The Community Foundation has committed $100,000 to the Lagniappe Fund. Businesses and individuals interested in supporting Give for Good should contact Jennifer Steadman at The Community Foundation for sponsorship information. In 2014, Give for Good raised more than $1.2 million for 77 participating nonprofits. Last year, in 2015, more than $1.7 million was raised for 156 participating nonprofits. The Foundation expects more than 200 nonprofits to participate in 2016. Updates about Give for Good can be found on The Foundation’s Facebook and Twitter pages. BOM, the premier bank of Northwest Louisiana, has hired Henry Burns as business development consultant. He will work in the Benton branch located at 4898 Palmetto Road. Burns is a long-time businessman and former state representative. He is a thoroughbred owner and breeder, and he previously owned the Wooden Spoon bakery in Bossier City. As a former member of the Bossier Parish School Board, he serves as a frequent guest lecturer in local public schools.

The Louisiana Supreme Court announced Suzanne H. Stinson, attorney Philip B. Sherman and attorney Fred L. Herman have been appointed members of the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana.

Slattery Johnson, Jr., an associate at Blanchard Walker, is being recognized by Super Lawyers as a 2016 Louisiana Rising Star in the area of personal injury defense. Casey Bloxom, an attorney practicing with Blanchard Walker subsidiary Sun Belt Title Company, is being recognized by Super Lawyers as a 2016 Louisiana Rising Star in the area of real estate law.

The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana reports a most successful Red Kettle campaign for Christmas 2015. Major Ed Binnix, commanding officer, said the total raised from red kettle donations is $248,507.00. Last year marked the 125th anniversary of The Red Kettle for the Salvation Army, as well as the 150th anniversary of The Salvation Army worldwide. The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year at the Merkle Center of Hope Emergency Shelter. Other programs of The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana include The Boys and Girls Club, The Salvation Army Family Store, the Saints Alive! Seniors program and disaster services.
