Taste of Shreveport: A large crowd gathered for the annual benefit for Holy Angels’ Taste of Shreveport-Bossier on Oct. 17 at the Bossier Civic Center. Besides sampling food, there was a large silent auction. Among vendors were East Ridge Country Club, Monjunis, Red Mango, the Shreveport Fire Department, Texas Street Steakhouse and Wine Country. Desserts represented were from Chocolate Crocodile and Cupcake Gallery. Rhino Coffee served hot beverages.

Golf Tournament: More than 150 golfers along with local soldiers and airmen from Barksdale Air Force Base took part in the Support-A-Soldier Golf Tournament on Oct. 20 at East Ridge Country Club. Support-A-Soldier is a nonprofit organization, which supplies gear/equipment that is not provided by the U.S. military. The past few months items like Garmin GPS devices, helmets, hardshell kneepads and boots have been shipped to soldiers serving overseas through SAS. Support-A- Soldier raised more than $40,000 during the golf tournament.

Aseana Festival: The Aseana Foundation held its annual Aseana Festival on Oct. 24 at the Asian Gardens located on Texas Avenue. Visitors and guests feasted on authentic Asian cuisine from The Philippines, China, India, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Japan and food from other countries. There were henna tattoos, plenty of music and dancing.

Kitchen Tour: The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier hosted their inaugural Kitchen Tour on Nov. 1. Guests were invited to start the morning off with Brunch and the Kitchen and Bath Cottage, followed by self-guided tours of 10 homes that had new or recently remodeled kitchens. The tour included homes in the Historic South Highlands and Ellerbe areas of town. The event concluded with an afternoon happy hour where the winner of a kitchen makeover was announced.

Social: The Shreveport-Bossier Panhellenic held its 2014 Greek Social Nov. 5 at Lewis’ Gifts. The annual event is a fundraiser for Panhellenic with the proceeds going toward helping area high school senior girls learn about sorority recruitment.

Rock Show: Three Dog Night, the popular, longtime American rock band, brought its music to DiamondJacks Casino on Nov. 7. The meet and greet for special guests beforehand offered an opportunity for photos with the band.

70th Party: Jack Shelton turned 70 and was surprised with a party Nov. 22 at The Well Coffee Shop at Brookwood Baptist Church. Guests were asked to bring humorous cards and some of the attendees sang a funny song to him about getting old.
