Dream Hunt: The Dream Hunt Foundation hosted an informational dinner July 9 at River City Grill in Bossier City. The Dream Hunt Foundation is a Louisiana-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to help children with special needs or who are underprivileged to fulfill their dream of going on the hunt of a lifetime. Dream Hunt was founded in the spring of 2013 with the belief that children whose lives have been otherwise focused on their disability, illness or limited resources could also have the opportunity to love the outdoors in an organized hunting experience. More than 50 people attended.


Optimist Law Day: The Optimist Club of Bossier City presented Respect for Law Day on July 9 at Ralph and Kacoo’s. Those recognized were Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington, Bossier City Marshal Lynn Austin, Capt. Tom Madden of the Louisiana State Police and James Stewart, Bossier City Police deputy chief. The event is held annually.

Baylor: Baylor University and the Baylor Parents Network had their annual Send-Off Party on July 23 at the home of Mark and Rebecca Evans. Judy Maggard, director of the Baylor Parents Network, and former Baylor quarterback Nick Florence attended the event.




Atlas: The Krewe of Atlas presented its theme, “Dreams,” and coronation July 26 at the Shreveport Memorial Municipal Auditorium. Guests were asked to wear white and Atlas “provided the color.” Tables were decorated in white with plume centerpieces. Desserts hung on platters from a white tree. The ball will be Jan. 10 at the Shreveport Convention Center. The krewe was established in 2006.


Hot Pursuit: The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club hosted its 10th annual Hot Pursuit 5K on July 26. Good eats, drinks and music were offered for the cause. The event was held at the Boys and Girls Club rather than Fant Parkway. Laps were made at the Fair Grounds.


Lonestar: DiamondJacks Casino and Hotel hosted American country music group Lonestar on June 28 at Legends Theatre. This year marks their 20th anniversary as a band; with this, they are releasing a brand new self-produced album and anniversary tour. Lonestar has a variety of No. 1 hits including “Walking in Memphis,” “My Front Porch Looking in” and “I’m Already There.”
