Tony Murray began his history with Goodwill Industries in 1990 when he attended our Janitorial Training Program. After graduation from the class, he worked as a maintenance manager with Avant Property Management Company and was followed by a Job Coach. However, due to a traumatic injury, Tony lost his job and was unable to work. After five years, Tony wanted to work again and came back to Goodwill in 2012 seeking help to gain employment. Since that time, Tony has worked in one of Goodwill’s retail stores, at Barksdale Air Force Base Commissary under Goodwill’s contract performing shelf-stocking, and is now a janitor at Goodwill’s Louisiana Job Service Office contract in Shreveport.
Tony is a role model for individuals with disabilities because of his unwavering optimism, strong perseverance in the face of challenges, and willingness to complete the job in a quality manner, regardless of the circumstances. Although he faces many challenges, Tony has always been enthusiastic to take on new responsibilities and roles. Even in hard times, he has kept a smile on his face and a spring in his step. Tony has never seen his disabilities as an obstacle; rather, he works around them and puts forth more effort into providing quality service.
