Yoga Opening: Aspire Yoga Center hosted a grand opening party May 31 for the new yoga center. Located at 663 Jordan Street in Shreveport, the Aspire Yoga Center can host up to 15 students per class, and the single class drop-in rate is $12. Fundraiser: Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell hosted a fundraiser June 2 at Ernest’s Orleans Restaurant. The event was attended by hundreds of supporters.


Dare: Horseshoe Casino and Hotel opened their brand new Las Vegas-style pool June 4. Featuring multiple cabanas and daybeds for rent, the pool also has dozens of lounge chairs on which pool visitors can enjoy cocktails and listen to the live DJ on site. Splash Saturdays are special events featuring celebrity DJs like Pauly D. from Jersey Shore, Coolio, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas among others. The pool opens each morning and closes at sunset.



Empty Bowls: Empty Bowls, the annual hunger awareness fundraising event for the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, was held June 5 at Eldorado Casino. Gene Haynes served as master of ceremonies. The event includes a silent auction and eating out of painted bowls. Guests take the bowls home and use them for eating, holding makeup, change, keys, buttons or hair clips. Outstanding volunteers were honored as well as Bernstein Development, which has partnered with the Food Bank since 2009. Their food pantry serves 250 families each month.


Wayne White: With three Emmys and numerous other awards to his name, Wayne White displayed his unique artistic mind through visually stunning, larger-than-life 3D word paintings at artspace. The opening reception for “I Took Off Work and Came All The Way Down Here” was June 6 with musical entertainment provided by The Seratones. These painstakingly integrated words are his exploration of the language of painting and the sanctity of humor. White adds a fantasy element to his new exhibition with three of his signature puppets towering from floor to ceiling.




Royal Mixer: The Krewe of Justinian held a royalty mixer June 13 at the Long Lake home of Capt. Layne Clark. Royalty will be crowned Aug. 15. The first Justinian princess has been named. About 85 people attended.

Jambalaya Jubilee: Krewe of Aesclepius members gave of their time and money to assist a local camp held each year. It’s called Jambalaya Jubilee and is held each June at Centenary College. Dr. Tom Pressly, local physician and krewe member, started this camp 24 years ago. Children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis come from all over the country for this fun and educational weekend. The Krewe of Aesclepius provides a second line bead-throwing event on the first night, and then members organize and play active games with the campers on the following day. The volunteers get as much benefit from this weekend as the campers.

Military Lunch: Top leaders from all major commands at Barksdale Air Force Base were front and center June 19 at the Bossier Chamber of Commerce’s Military Speakers Luncheon. The event was hosted at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 2015 Old Minden Road. The Bossier Chamber started the event as a way to educate the community on the economic impact Barksdale has on our region as well as to encourage support and build solid community partnerships for Team Barksdale. Attendees had the pleasure of hearing an in-depth overview from Lt. Gen. Stephen Wilson, the highest ranking officer at Barksdale, and commander of Air Force Global Strike Command.
