Tuesday, Aug. 19, 3:30 p.m. Alta and John Franks Community Centre Popular book reviewer Jacqueline Gore shares this fictional biography – “The Aviator’s Wife” – based on the experiences of an extraordinary woman – Anne Morrow. Morrow’s story is one of a young naïve girl who marries world famous aviator Charles Lindbergh. She endures a journey through a difficult marriage and the kidnapping and murder of her firstborn child, but is able one day to step from behind her husband’s shadow. Cost: $5, nonresidents. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2 p.m. Ballroom, Tower at The Oaks Steve Aiken will discuss highlights of great Italian opera and members of Shreveport Opera Xpress, the education and outreach program of Shreveport Opera, will entertain with selections from “La Bohème,” “Tosca” and “Madame Butterfly,” among others. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2 p.m. Alta and John Franks Community Centre Linda Baker, speech therapist with The Oaks of Louisiana, will address the benefits of speech therapy to improve functional independence for individuals with neurological conditions. Neurological conditions addressed will include dementia, cerebrovascular accident, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, head injury, and communication issues that most commonly affect middle-aged and geriatric populations.
