A Day to Give
The Community Foundation of North Louisiana will kick off the first 24-hour online giving day May 6. During that period, the Community Foundation along with its sponsors will amplify all donations made to participating organizations. Organizations can also receive extra cash prizes throughout the day.

Nature’s Place
Stephanie Lusk is the co-director of the foundation and said renovations on the old YWCA are to start this spring with completion scheduled for the fall. In December, Lusk said the museum will host its grand opening and has issued a call to local artists and international writers for the debut.

Perfect Season
With their 105-103 victory over the Jacksonville Giants, the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks not only secured the American Basketball Association League Championship, they also capped off a perfect winning season, with 34 out of 34 wins. A large crowd enthusiastically cheered on the team at Hirsch Coliseum the night of the final game April 14.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
As an observer of the political realm for five decades, I find myself in disbelief with what is going on in the Louisiana Legislature, other governmental entities, and with special interests groups and out-ofstate billionaires. It seems that they have all gone crazy or, at the very least, are stuck in a past century.

Passing Thoughts
A couple of passing thoughts on the current Legislative session that’s thankfully a little better than half over … It was reassuring to learn that state lawmaker Thomas Carmody removed his bill to make the Holy Bible the state book of Louisiana from consideration by the House, although it had already passed in committee on an 8-5 vote.

Skin Cancer
didn’t come to see me for a melanoma when she made an appointment at my office. She simply had a rash that was itchy. While performing an examination, I noticed a small “mole” on her back and biopsied it. This tiny little imperfection turned out to be a melanoma (skin cancer).
