Saturday, March 29

There is an exciting gala coming to the historic town of Mansfield on Saturday, March 29, 2014. “Broadway Comes South” will celebrate the work of Mansfield’s favorite son, Broadway legend Josh Logan, who was responsible for some of Broadway’s most renowned productions such as “Annie Get Your Gun”, “South Pacific” and “Mister Rogers”.

Among the gala’s sponsors are Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler; the Community Foundation of Northwest Louisiana; The DeSoto Parish Tourist Bureau; The DeSoto Parish Police Jury, Reggie Roe, President; Mansfield Mayor Curtis McCoy; The Mayors of DeSoto Parish towns; The Bedsole Family and Akins Nursery. This event is to raise awareness of – and funds for – The Clista Calhoun Center of the Mansfield Female College (the oldest such facility west of the Mississippi). These two buildings are historic cornerstones of Mansfield.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with cocktails and music provided by Shreveport vocalist/pianist Rocky Mattox. Each room of both facilities will have a historian available to inform the public of the history of the facility and of Mansfield itself. There will be a silent auction and also an exciting live auction of exceptional items. The live auction will be facilitated by Shreveport attorney John Odom and will include such impressive items as a private dinner for 12 with a chef flown in from the west coast and held at a DeSoto Parish estate with first class wines paired with each dish; a week- long vacation at a stunning Gulf Coast home; and a year’s membership in a private DeSoto Parish fishing preserve.

The event will also include a deluxe catered dinner followed by world-class singers from the Shreveport Opera’s Opera Express performing songs made famous in some of Josh Logan’s most legendary productions.

Tickets for this elaborate and engaging night of history, food and entertainment are only $50 (or $500 for a table of eight). The Clista Calhoun Center of the Mansfield Female College is at 101 Monroe Street in Mansfield. You can secure tickets or get more information by calling Event Chair Carolyn Huckabay at (318)-347-9560 or the Center’s Executive Director Van Reech at (318)-540-7500.
