Ark-La-Tex Ear Nose & Throat

Dr. Andrea Dean of Ark-La- Tex Ear Nose and Throat is a native of Cabot, Arkansas, who has lived in Shreveport since 2009. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in Speech and Hearing Communication Disorders and Sciences from Ouachita Baptist University.

Dean obtained her Doctorate of Audiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where she was awarded “scholar of the year” twice. She completed her externship at Arkansas Children’s Hospital where she specialized in pediatric diagnostics and hearing aids as well as both adult and pediatric cochlear implants.

Dean is licensed in audiology by the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.

Dean plays an important role at Ark-La-Tex Ear, Nose and Throat’s Hearing Center, providing comprehensive evaluation and management of hearing loss for adults and children.

Dean saw firsthand at an early age how hearing loss affected her younger sister, which inspired her to spend her time dedicated to helping her patients communicate more effectively.

“[My younger sister] was diagnosed with severe-to-profound hearing loss and cerebral palsy at birth secondary to complications of extreme prematurity. I was 11-years-old when she was born, and I spent years working with her and my family to help her overcome communication barriers and physical struggles,” she said. “She has worn hearing aids since age 1 and we are thrilled she has received her cochlear implat in May 2015 and is doing great. She is now a sophomore at Ouachita Baptist University and I could not be more proud of her progress and accomplishments and she continues to inspire me daily,” Dean said.

“I had no idea when she was born that she would have such a lasting impact on my life and my career. I have learned more from her about the personal impact of hearing loss than I ever learned in eight years of school.”

Dean said she truly has a passion for her job. “Our world revolves around hearing and communication. When our ability to communicate is interrupted and untreated it can be devastating to a patient and lead to social isolation. It is my job to evaluate each patient’s hearing abilities and educate them on how I can help and how they can help themselves,” she explained. “Not everyone needs hearing aids, but many people do. I make my recommendations based on each patient’s hearing loss, lifestyle and specific hearing needs.

“I know from personal experience that involving families, significant others and caregivers in treatment of hearing loss is almost as important as the hearing aids themselves for many patients,” Dean said.

“My goal is to educate patients and families and rehabilitate each patients’ ability to communicate in his or her daily life.”

Dean offers the latest digital hearing aid technology as well as multiple custom listening products, and works with patients and families to rehabilitate each patient’s ability to communicate based on their specific needs.
