Holly Garrett is a GIA Accredited Jewelry Professional who has been with Sid Potts, Inc., the premier jewelry showroom in Shreveport, for fifteen years. Holly’s passion for fine jewelry and her keen eye in the design world have earned her respect by some of the jewelry industry’s top designers, Frances Gadbois of Sloane Street, Bez Ambar, Norman Silverman and Jude Steele of Jude Frances. Holly recently shared some of her insight with CityLife:

On what’s new in the jewelry world: “Color is big now in all price ranges. You can go pink diamond, pink tourmaline, pink sapphire, pink topaz or pink quartz depending on how much you’d like to spend. Blue gemstones also have endless variety in every price range - from blue topaz to the finest sapphires.”

On re-invigorating a spring wardrobe: “Try a pair of statement earrings in your favorite color. They brighten your face and are immediately noticed. Also, yellow gold is very strong. A yellow gold bangle or cuff is great on its own or stacked with other bracelets in silver or white gold.”

On women buying jewelry for themselves: “Today, it’s common for women to buy jewelry for themselves, whether it’s to celebrate a job promotion or just because something speaks to them. Jewelry marks special moments and events in a woman’s life and it helps her preserve those moments in a tactile way. I’m a big believer in women treating themselves.”

On the Buy Smart Strategy: “To have one piece or a few pieces that are better jewelry is a smart idea because it lasts forever. You can wear classic pieces like diamond studs or hoops with everything. If you invest in quality diamonds or color stones at the outset, the investment is in the stones and can always be redesigned to better express your personality and lifestyle.”

On what Holly wears most: “I’m wearing earrings with Paraiba tourmalines. They are pretty rare, but these are my ‘diamond studs.’ I wear them with everything.”

On what she loves about Sid Potts, Inc.: “Shopping for jewelry is fun! We love when ladies come in and spend an hour or two playing dress-up. We have gorgeous and rare pieces, but also many that are very wearable and very buyable. Really, convenience and the commitment to shopping local shouldn’t mean having to settle when it comes to the finest jewelry. A lot of thought and effort have gone into creating this atmosphere and these amazing collections, but we want everybody to be able to have jewelry in their lives.” Call Holly for great ideas at (318) 797-2929.
