Joyce E. Feagin, MD is a native of Mobile, Ala., and a resident of Bossier City. She is a graduate of John L. LeFlore High School where she was named class valedictorian. She graduated magna cum laude from the Honors College and the School of Science and Technology at Jackson State University with a bachelor’s of science degree in biology with a concentration in chemistry. Feagin went on to earn a doctorate in medicine from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, and then completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology oncology at the University of South Alabama Hospitals and Clinics. Feagin is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, medical oncology, and hospice and palliative medicine.

Making oncology her specialty was an easy choice for Feagin. “I too, as has everyone else, have lost family members to cancer illnesses and felt hopeless. I wondered if more could be done,” she said.

Shortly after completing her fellowship, Feagin was recruited to Shreveport-Bossier City in 2000 to help staff the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center that was then under construction.

Since joining Willis-Knighton Cancer Center, she has been a member of the cancer committee first serving as the community outreach liaison for several years before being named the cancer liaison physician of the American College of Surgeons, of which she is currently serving her third term. She is the director of the emerging Supportive Oncology Program, and also is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the North West Louisiana Medical Association.

Throughout her career, Feagin has worked tirelessly for those in her care.

“The sheer pleasure of feeling as if I’ve made a positive impact on someone’s life either by extending life, improving quality of life or both is my favorite part of being a physician,” she said.

Feagin is active in the community and has served on the Board of Directors of Susan G Komen. She is currently on the Leadership Council of the local office of the American Cancer Society and is on the Board of Directors of the Ivy Crown Community Services, Inc.
