Every year, we are more and more impressed with the featured Women in Business who share their stories, philosophy and motivation with our readers. You, too, will see these aren’t ladies who lounge around the house eating bonbons (not that there is anything wrong with that) but they get out in the world and make a difference – for themselves and our community. A strong work ethic and really caring about the people they serve is a common thread.
While our Women in Business edition puts a strong focus on success, you will find no shortage of other special and heartwarming stories throughout the issue that we encourage you to read and enjoy.
Not to miss: The Bold and the Beautiful, where four medical students shave their heads for childhood cancer and raise funds for Geaux Bald. These outstanding ladies recognize it is the children who are strong. Between the women, nearly $8,000 was raised for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Our “Lady Who Lunches,” Lynn Laird, takes you to tea at Glenwood Tea Room. Under new ownership, the Line Avenue staple has enjoyed a revitalized energy, and the new restaurateurs have a passion for serving scones and other goodies just so. It’s a perfect place to spend time with friends, or even for enjoying an afternoon with your favorite person in the world: mom. After all, Mother’s Day is just around the corner.
Mrs. Fix-it, Sarah Thomas, gives us the basics for making a great door wreath, and it starts with a form, wire and hot glue. The rest is up to your imagination.
For cyclists, writer Karen Wissing invites you for a ride along and get back on track after a flat tire with just the right tools and plenty of advice about maintaining your bike’s ride. Don’t be embarrassed about a flat – ride with a group, and any and all will be happy to help.
There are swoon-worthy events coming up in our monthly calendar, principally Harry Connick Jr. at Municipal Memorial Auditorium May 4. Les Tour de Jardins invites you to stroll some of the area’s most beautiful gardens created by Master Gardeners, and Derby Day at the Norton Art Gallery is all about looking good. Every one is a fab idea for a ladies’ outing or even for couples – music, style and romance are in the air.
And rounding out the issue is our red carpet event at Susan G. Komen’s “Dancing With the Stars,” and we also share festive pics from Chocolate and Champagne, CORK, and the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
