Heels and Reels
Female characters such as Ouiser Boudreaux from “Steel Magnolias,” Carrie Bradshaw from “Sex and the City” and Liz GIlbert from “Eat Pray Love” have made an appearance at Heels and Reels, the Robinson Film Center’s women-driven film series. Along with these heroines, about 85 residents of Shreveport-Bossier City attended the typically sold-out event.

DINING
The fall and winter months are my personal favorite. I love the lightness in the air, and the feel of leaves under my feet when I walk through the woods, or for that matter, across my yard. But, I think the best part about the cooler months is the faint smell of smoke trailing from a distant chimney.

Cool Nights
While squash are roasting, prepare the soup: Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add the shallot and 1 teaspoon salt. Add the sage leaves into the pot and increase the heat to medium. Stirring occasionally, cook until the shallot is soft, about 5 minutes.

Gingerbread House
The Gingerbread House hosted their annual luncheon Oct. 8 at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino in Shreveport. John Walsh, the well-known host of “America’s Most Wanted,” was the keynote speaker at the Partners in Prevention Luncheon Fundraiser. Proceeds from the lunch, which totaled more than $95,000, will benefit child abuse victims in the area.

Norla Prohibition Party
The Norla Preservation Project hosted their second 1920s-themed Prohibition Party on Oct. 3 at The Remington Suite Hotel in downtown Shreveport. Live music was by The Messy Cookers Jazz Band. All proceeds go toward the rehab and re-purpose of six historic shotgun houses into a retail and dining development in downtown Shreveport.
