Shreveport is a city to fall for. We have some of the best restaurants and activities in Louisiana. The trick is to find them.

With our newest column we have expanded “Dinner Date” into “In Love with the City” on Page 43.

Each month Chris Jay, of the Shreveport- Bosser Convention & Tourist Bureau, and his wife, Sara Hebert, of Moonbot Studios, will take us along on a date with them anywhere in Shreveport-Bossier City.

Both of them share a passion for all things local, so it will provide great insight to another side of Shreveport that will get you attached.

October is also a month that is dedicated to survivors.

Lauren Tigges is the survivor of a traumatic car accident that happened about seven months ago. Read “Team Lauren” on Page 18.

Given the topic, I was eager to hear her story firsthand. After Tigges agreed, I offered to interview her and her father, Danny Fogger. As she walked in her dad’s LSU-clad office, she took the huge recliner r that I was too intimidated to sit in.

We immediately bonded over our love of writing. Tigges told me she journals all the time.

Tigges has such a calm yet positive demeanor. She is a humble person, the kind you know would be a good friend.

I asked Lauren if she has a quote or motto that she lives by, and she told me, “What matters most is how well you walk through the fire.”

That quote speaks volumes of Lauren and her family. Instead of being bitter given the situation, they focused on what they could do and worked through all the trials and tribulations related to the accident.

By the end of the interview, I couldn’t help but to hug both of them. This is the kind of family you root for.
