(Above and right) A contemporary twist on the classic supper club, Grace by Nia in Boston’s Seaport features live music, soul food and craft cocktails.

Home to schools like Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory, Boston is a music town and there are plenty of places to hear live crooning around the city. If you want to do that over a satisfying meal or with a cocktail in hand, check out these jazz bars and restaurants where live music and strong flavors go hand in hand.

Grace By Nia

60 Seaport Blvd.

This chic Seaport restaurant and jazz club has been a hit since opening in 2023. The restaurant, run by Nia Grace, who also owns the former Darryl’s in the South End, dishes out satisfying soul food in an upscale space. There are options for folks to grab a drink at the bar, have a full meal in a tucked away booth or get up close and personal with the musicians at bistro tables next to the stage. Nosh on oxtail and grits, fried chicken and biscuits and more. gracebynia.com

The Bepop

1116 Boylston St.

This hub for Berklee College of Music students is bumping every night of the week, and not just with jazz. Though you’ll hear plenty of saxophone riffs, you can also enjoy country, bluegrass, world music and more at this casual joint. On the menu find pub fare like beer-battered fish and chips, beef stew and shepherd’s pie plus an Irish draft beer list. thebebopboston.com

Jazz Urbane Cafe

2300 Washington St.

Nubian Square’s newest bar and restaurant serves an Afro-diasporic menu and a side of tunes from some of Boston’s best jazz, soul and salsa musicians. Though the restaurant isn’t officially open yet, it’s running regular ticketed performances for locals to preview the experience. The bar is stocked with Black-owned wine and liquor brands and the kitchen whips up everything from savory Brazilian stews to hearty chicken and waffles. jazzurbanecafe.com

Uptown Social

604 Columbus Ave.

The newly reimagined Darryl’s, now Uptown Social, still hosts live music every night but with a slightly swankier menu and updated surroundings. Sample buttermilk biscuits, creole mussels and pickled deviled eggs with dollops of caviar. This space has a cozier, more neighborhood feel as opposed to their flashier Grace By Nia. And for those who miss the Darryl’s menu, chef Chelven Randolph brings back those classics on Throwback Thursdays. uptownsocialboston.com

Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club

427 Massachusetts Ave.

No jazz bar list would be complete without Wally’s, a South End staple since it opened in 1947. The storied spot keeps it simple with live music every night and a selection of cocktails that err on the tropical side in homage to the Barbados roots of Wally’s founder, Joseph L. Walcott. The bar has played host to greats like Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Roy Haynes and, as their website says, “every kid with a horn and nerves.” wallyscafe.com
