Cool off and refresh with an icy cocktail at Alma Gaucha Steakhouse.

The August heat is raging and there are few antidotes to the high humidity levels as effective as an ice-cold beverage. Whether you’re looking for a tropical buzz in a cocktail glass or a spirit-free spritz to keep hydrated and cool, these are the best frozen drinks in the city.

Brazilian Caipirinhas at Alma Gaucha

Seaport

A caipirinha is a classic Brazilian cocktail made with cachaça, sugar, lime and lots of ice. At Alma Gaucha they come in several flavors (kiwi, passionfruit, coconut, pineapple) and are a crispy cool delight on a warm day. The restaurant also recently rolled out a summer bar menu with tangy tacos and grilled octopus.

Poptails at Taco Azul

Beacon Hill

Since opening in October 2024, Taco Azul has offered three flavors of poptails, a light version of a popsicle cocktail that mixes the ice-cold refresher with prosecco. It’s a great lower ABV option that still does the trick. Choose between watermelon, cucumber and pineapple and pair it with housemade guac and blue corn chips.

Raspados at Chichos

Jamaica Plain and Seaport

The beloved Mexican street corn vendor Chichos has rolled out a line of refreshing and nonalcoholic raspados for the summer heat. Traditionally, raspados are shaved ice cups with flavoring poured on top, a juicy alternative to ice cream. Chichos makes theirs with fresh fruit served in a cup with both a straw and a spoon. The flavor list includes mango, strawberry, cherry, tamarindo and chamoy.

Soft Serve Espresso Martini at Buttermilk and Bourbon

Back Bay

Is it dessert or a refreshing cocktail? The line is delightfully blurred in this soft-serve espresso martini that tops soft-serve coffee ice cream with vanilla flavored vodka, Kahlua and Irish cream. Sitting on the sunken patio at this Back Bay restaurant sipping one of these and snacking on the restaurant’s crispy fried chicken and soft biscuits will make for an unforgettable evening.

Pina Colada at Loco Taqueria

Fenway

Cheer on the Red Sox and their surprising and delightful season turnaround with an ice-cold pina colada at Loco Taqueria just steps from Fenway Park. Hearing the screaming fans cheer when we score is just about as relaxing as sipping this tropical cocktail on a beach. Pair it with chips and a salsa trio or a hearty quesadilla.
