Historically, jazz has been reduced to a simplistic definition. The younger generation has often associated jazz with an older crowd, due to its popularization in the 20th century. However, the truth is jazz has been integrated into many well-known musical genres to this day. Before Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, came Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Jazz is so much more than what meets the eye. Instruments like the saxophone, trumpet, and bass have been incorporated into our favorite R&B scores. This is why Jazz Urbane’s lineup will not only include award-winning instrumentalists, but independent artists as well. This past week end the four-time Grammy award-winning drummer and producer, Terri Lyne Carrington debuted her newest album at the Jazz Urbane club and the audience received a great performance and an intergenerational experience.

Last weekend Jazz Urbane Cafe (JUC) recently hosted Grammy Award-winning drummer Terri Lyne Carrington’s exclusive record release celebration to a full and happy house. Carrington and her collaborative collective, Social Science, premiered their highly anticipated sophomore album, “Trip the Night Fantastic,” a powerful compilation that merges urgent social commentary with irresistible grooves. When the JUC opens fully in the Fall, for JUC’s grand opening, Terri will join the Cafe arts team to regularly host, curate and produce shows.
