The Boston Young Black Professionals group is gearing up to host its 12th Annual Beach Day on Aug. 2 from 2-7 p.m. at the Bernie King Pavilion at Nantasket Beach in Hull. The goal of the celebration, according to the Eventbrite invitation, is “to make new friends, enjoy beach games and contests and relax by the ocean.”

“The Beach Day was started in 2014 by the founder of Boston YP Henry Johnson, and some of the other organizers at the time,” said Ron Daniel, president of Boston YBP. “It was just a way for [a] group of friends to hang out every summer on the beach, and have fun, socialize. … It’s something that we decided to keep going as a long-standing Boston YP tradition,” he said.

This Beach Day is offered in partnership with Save the Harbor/Save the Bay and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), which runs the Better Beaches Grant Program. The partnership awards small grants to organizations and artists to plan free events and programs on DCR beaches in Nahant, Lynn, Revere, Winthrop, East Boston, South Boston, Dorchester, Quincy and Hull.

Community members can listen to music by DJ Motivate Merren throughout the day, play beach games such as checkers and jumbo Jenga, eat good food and network with people while relaxing and having summer fun.

Daniel said it is important to have an event like this, especially for young professionals who may have a hard time seeing a lot of that attendees “can just have fun [and] be themselves. Even if they’re shy, we would come up [to them]. People would come up and talk to them. Everyone is welcome.”
