Controne Pepperoni Pizza

Chef Harrison Lukoff has finally fulfilled a decade-long dream of opening his own Italian restaurant.

After years of cooking at high-end Boston dining spots like L’Espalier and Slip 14, Lukoff’s concept Controne has opened in Lamplighter Brewing Co.’s Broadway taproom.

“I have wanted to open a restaurant for 10 years, ever since my time in Italy,” said Lukoff. “It feels full circle to now cook the cuisine that motivated me to keep going in this industry.”

The restaurant serves Roman-style personal pizzas and creative arancini [Italian rice balls] in flavors like speck, caramelized onion and roasted apple or mushroom and onion soubise. These hearty, comfort-food dishes are meant to be filling and warming during the cold winter.

Inspired by a six-month stint Lukoff spent living and working in Italy, the menu will evolve with the seasons, ultimately bringing in some Mediterranean twists.

“The Broadway Taproom has always been a place for people to come, sit, and stay for a while. Without a consistent evening food option, we were limiting that experience,” said Cayla Marvil, co-founder of Lamplighter Brewing Co. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Controne to offer a consistent, delicious menu for our customers.”

This linger culture is further emphasized in Lamplighter’s robust events schedule. It hosts everything from Jeopardy, pottery classes and screenings of RuPaul’s “Drag Race” to brewery yoga, live concerts and a queer knitting group. There’s a reason for everyone to stay, and now there’s a reason for everyone to eat.

Controne is open at the taproom of Lamplighter Brewing Co., 284 Broadway in Cambridge, Tuesday through Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. This location is also home to an in-house cafe called Pepita that serves breakfast, lunch and espresso beverages from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.

This is the latest in a series of culinary commitments made by Lamplighter Brewing Co. In fall 2025, Crazzy Tacos opened permanently at the brewery’s Cambridge Crossing location.

Breweries are also more widely becoming venues to experience talented chefs in Boston. Aatma Curry House opened at Widowmaker Brewing Co. in Brighton in December highlighting Indian cuisine. Aeronaut Brewing in Somerville hosts three restaurants in that city: Chinese-Japanese hybrid Mimi’s Ch ka Diner, Venezuelan restaurant Carolicious and sweets hub Somerville Chocolate.

The Lamplighter team hopes Controne will encourage brewery-goers to spend even more time in the space, now over rich red sauces and melted cheese.

“Harrison has really impressed us with his culinary skill and thoughtful menu,” said Marvil. “Plus, nothing pairs better with beer than pizza.”
