Deborah J. Jones

Deborah J. Jones will become president of MGH Institute of Health Professions on Jan. 18, bringing extensive experience in academic nursing leadership, program development and community engagement.

Jones most recently was chief integration officer and dean at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where her leadership helped UTMB achieve the top NCLEX pass rates in Texas for four years.

She also increased faculty retention to over 98% and held the Rebecca Sealy Distinguished Centennial Chair, serving as interim provost during 2022-2023.

At UTHealth, Jones held several academic leadership roles, including department chair and associate dean of faculty affairs.

Previously, Jones managed infection control at the Harris County Hospital District and was a clinical project supervisor at Virginia Commonwealth University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Radford University as well as a Master of Science and a PhD in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University.

“Dr. Jones brings the right combination of experience, insight, and interpersonal skill to lead the Institute into its next chapter,” said MGH Institute Board Chair Jeanette Ives Erickson.

As Jones prepares to transfer to the MGH Institute of Medical Professions, there is no doubt that with such an extensive career behind her, she will be a great addition to the MGH community. Just as she has improved the institutions she has served, she will continue to apply her leadership skills and expertise to strengthen the MGH community.
