Boston City sports eyes are on the John D. O’Bryant girls’ volleyball team this year with a 13-1 record. The Tigers have an unblemished home record at 8-0 and are 4-1 on the road with their only loss coming at the hands of the Boston Latin Academy Dragons. It was a tough loss for O’Bryant because they were coming off a season high 11 straight wins, and LA was facing a threegame losing streak.

The Lady Tigers did not have the home court advantage like their previous meeting when they won in straight sets. O’Bryant has nine straight wins at home carrying over from the 2023 season, including their fantastic four-set match win over neighboring Madison Park Technical Vocational High School. This win was especially sweet since The Cardinals were the defending Boston City Champions. O’Bryant’s Kandace Aikens served five straight service points to erase an 11-14 deficit in the Boston City League contest. The Tigers served up 18 Aces and won 25-15, 21-25, 25-20, and 25-17. This team has a very strong service game, scoring 12 aces per game in the last seven out of eight contests they have played.

They will face New Mission High School and East Boston High to end the regular season.

They won their last match against the Titans handily but had a fight on their hands with the Jets winning by three sets to two.

The girls’ volleyball team is looking to match the boy’s team that won the City League Championship earlier this year.
