Ruth Batson Academy dedication ceremony

The Dorchester school was formerly named the John W. McCormack Middle School before officially being renamed this year. The school now bears the name of Ruth Marion Batson, a celebrated local activist who focused on education and equality.

Dr. Jessie Garnett House plaque dedication

A crowd of friends, neighbors, and local history buffs enjoyed remarks on Dr. Garnett’s life and home from speakers including Heritage Guild President Jonnie Hamilton Mason, State Rep. Chris Worrell presented formal congratulations from the House of Representatives to Edith Sorrell on behalf of the Garnett family.
