DEEJAY DEMAND
DJ handle: DeeJay Demand
What it means: I can accommodate such a wide variety of musical tastes; I am always able to meet the demand of any given crowd.
Real name: Eric Petree
What I play: My music library consists of 25,000+ songs and grows daily, so I play anything. My personal preferences are old-school hip hop, funk, dancehall reggae, Baltimore house, Top 40 dance and urban music, but I specialize in old school to new school mashups.
Catch me at: Lucky 7’s Sports Bar Upcoming shows: Lucky 7’s Sports Bar every Wednesday for Wasted Wednesdays; every Thursday for Tasty Takedown Thursdays Got in the game: 1987
Why I do it: I grew up in the greatest decade of American music, the 1980s. Hip hop, B-boys, Kangols, shell-toe Adidas and fat laces reigned supreme and I wanted to be a part of the party. I was a terrible break dancer, so I started DJing.
Influences: Jam-Master Jay, DJ Premier, DJ Scott La Rock, Marley Marl
First pro gig: A fraternity party at my alma mater, UNC-Chapel Hill. Go Heels!
Studio work: The Dead Holsterz (Independent Label in Durham)
Favorite technique: Beat juggling
Signature mix: DeeJay Demand Returns (2008). This mix CD was made after I had “retired” for about two years after I moved back to Winston-Salem.
Personal playlist: Common, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Run-DMC, Talib Kweli, Stevie Wonder, Michael McDonald, KRS-One
Favorite albums: Dr. Dre — The Chronic, Outkast — Stankonia, the Fugees — The Score, Guns N Roses — Appetite for Destruction, Jay Z — Reasonable Doubt, 2Pac — All Eyez on Me, Madonna — Like A Prayer, Nirvana — Nevermind, A Tribe Called Quest — Low End Theory, Beastie Boys — Paul’s Boutique, NWA — Straight Outta Compton, U2 — Joshua Tree, Red Hot Chili Peppers — Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Prince — Sign o’ the Times, Michael Jackson — Thriller
My gear: Numark NS7FX, or Numark Mixtrack Pro, depends on the gig. Dell Inspirion Laptop with Serato, and Ableton Live for Remixes/ReEdits/ Mastering. Peavey PV Series, Mixer, Amp, Mics, and Loudspeakers, if I’m not plugged into a house system.

I’d like to add: I love making people dance and happy when they come see me play, not only in clubs, but several other events and private functions. I DJ weddings, company parties, and volunteer events as well. My passion for the art of DJing is always on display, even though at times I become nostalgic for two turntables, mixer, microphone and milk crates full of records.
