Man dies of gunshot wound after police told he is only drunk
Winston-Salem police officers were on the scene at when 26-year-old Jerry Denard Posey II discharged a firearm in the parking lot at Kings Plaza at about 2 a.m. on Feb. 29, according to a press release. They took him into custody and recovered a weapon. At some point they discovered 19-year-old Terrance Gavin Murchison, who had left Club Palacio. The police reported that family and friends who were tending to Murchison told the cops that he wasn’t hurt, just drunk. The police called an ambulance but before it could arrive, friends and family reportedly put Murchison in a car and took him away. At 3:10 a.m. the police received a call from a nurse at Forsyth Medical Center, who said Murchison had been shot and was receiving CPR. As it turned out, Murchison had been shot in the lower stomach. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Murchison died. Police investigators determined that Posey fired the shot that killed Murchison. Posey has been charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a firearm within the city limits and possession of marijuana. Posey also had outstanding warrants for unrelated matters. He was held at the Forsyth County Jail under a $506,000 bond.
