Earth Day Lansing

Here in Lansing, we do Earth Day the right way — all weekend long. With an art exhibit, a benefit concert, an eco-fest and the Temple Ball, Lansing knows how to celebrate Planet Earth and all it has to offer. From 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 22, Jon Miller will speak at Lansing Community College. On Friday, April 23, the Artists for the Earth art exhibit will take place at Absolute Gallery and Grace's Designs in Old Town from 5-7 p.m., followed by a benefit concert featuring performances by Ultraviolet Hippopotamus and Four Finger Five at the Temple Club. Saturday, April 24, brings the Schupan Family Eco-Fest on the lawn of the Capitol Building, beginning at 10 a.m. Bring the kids out for an educational yet entertaining day filled with tie-dyeing carbon-free t-shirts, organic snacks from Mama Bears Café and a 100-percent recycled eco-village play area.

Saturday is also the grand opening of the new Lansing City Market. The fun kicks back up again at 8 p.m., with the Artists for the Earth Temple Ball, including a half-time show by Charlie Slick. Concert tickets are $10-$20 at the door.

Dining Out for Life

 
Join the Lansing Area AIDS Network (LAAN) on Thursday, April 29, for a fundraising event, Dining Out For Life. Simply dine out at any of the participating Lansing restaurants, and a portion of your bill will be donated to LAAN. This donation will help people living with HIV and AIDS in the Central Michigan Region. The restaurants are: Coral Gables in East Lansing (breakfast and lunch), Coffee Jam in Lansing (all day), Pablo’s Old Town Restaurant in Lansing (all day) and Sawyer’s Gourmet Pancake House in Lansing (dinner, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.). Dining Out For Life is held annually in 60 cities in the U.S. and Canada, and 2010 is LAAN’s first year participating. If you attend the fundraiser at any of the participating restaurants, you will be entered into a prize drawing. First prize is $500 cash, second prize is a $100 gift certificate, and third prize is a $50 gift certificate. The winners will be drawn and announced on Tuesday, May 4, at 8:45 a.m. on the Tim Barron Morning Show, WQTX, 92.1FM.
