EDITOR’S NOTE
Aaaaah! A little rain finally begins the cool-down of a hot and humid summer that might feel and look more like the more tropical climate of South Louisiana: steamy and lush with foliage.

Savoring the sweetness of summer
I spent this morning sitting in a 12-inch tall chair in my daughter’s new preschool classroom, and when I wasn’t thinking about how I was going to get back out of the chair, I was excited by the thought of how much Tilly was going to love coming back to school this year.

Exercise those manner MUSCLES
September is National Good Manners Month and is a good time for all of us to do a double-check on how well we are doing in the area of politeness and manners. Take the “manner muscle” challenge and use September to evaluate the strength of you and your family’s manner muscles and see how all are doing.

The great DIVIDE
One of the things I've never liked about our home is how the master bathroom is open to the bedroom. The counter and two sinks are exposed to the rest of the bedroom, and the toilet and tub/shower are adjacent and separated by a door on the right side.

Head back to school with CLEAR SKIN
Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States, and it should be treated. A common myth is that you have to let acne run its course. Dermatologists know that letting acne runs its course is not always the best advice. Without treatment, dark spots and permanent scars can appear on the skin as acne clears.

HAPPY HOUR
As soon as it became too hot to enjoy outdoor patios, we started a new search for our favorite happy hours. Traditionally, happy hours are usually sometime between 4-7 p.m. featuring discounts to entice the after-work crowd, but they can be offered any time of day or night.

The great OUTDOORS
So, summer is almost over, and I can honestly say, “Good!” I have never been a big fan primarily due to oppressive heat/ humidity, mosquitoes and a moderate aversion to swimming or other water'related activities.

AFFAIRS TO REMEMBER
John Cariere juggled mail while unlocking the door on the threshold of his wide old porch at Fairfield Place Bed & Breakfast and said, “It smells like New Orleans in here to me, smell it? Like an old house?” And it does, but not an old, musty house that’s been closed up for years.

C&C ELECTRIC AND LIGHTING
Many of us decorate by evolution, adding new finds as we come across them or as our budget allows. Forever pieces, however, are great investments. If your idea of a forever piece has been something simple that blends in and will match anything always, you’re basically insuring your rooms will be so-so forever.

Perfect pairings DON’T FEAR THE VINTNER
Great wine shouldn’t have to break your budget or your self-esteem. With a little bit of knowledge about the Big Six Grapes and how terroir and/or food influence the taste of those grapes, you can take the power of wine selection into your own hands..

Cheesemonger extraordinaire KRISHA ILES
“The main thing to remember whenever you walk into a shop like ours is to ask questions,” Iles said. “That’s why we’re back here. If you tell us what you like, we’ll do our best to find something very similar or maybe even get you to step out of the box just a little bit.

COOKING with Accents
Because it’s back to school for our young people. What that means as it relates to food is the repeat worry of how to ensure your children are getting a nutritious lunch instead of the direct impact on classroom performance. The same can be said for adults regarding how we feel at work because of the foods we eat.

Back to school POWER
